Summer dreaming

Mood board for the summer~ I'm thinking retro pin-up doll vibes, polka dots, bright colours, bold patterns, cropped bustiers, kiss-me lippies, minidresses with flare skirts, shift dresses, short rompers...

There's something sexy about short curls and bold lippies

The swimsuit I bought! And now, to get a bikini-worthy bod...wish I could just buy it as well.

Freedom day one.

Homestyle pancakes
Now that I think back on it, I realise they got my order wrong!! D: Suddenly recalled that what I ordered was the espresso pancake stack and not homestyle pancakes. But being me, I forgot what I ordered, so I ate what was served...hmm. The espresso pancake stack sounded yummy, sigh. Oh well.

Sticky date pudding with vanilla ice cream; walnuts; eggs benedict

Colourful x'mas deco at marina square; Keppel bay
This really friendly (or really bored) security guard auntie fiddled around with J's iphone and took 587231 photos of us, insisting that the lighting can be changed so that we didn't look shadowed against the backlight. ...in the end I liked the first photo best, 'cause I got tired of smiling in the later photos(^^;)

Then I met the girls to celebrate the end of another semester of law school. Time passes way too fast really. It's the end of the year again.
Tang posted a photo of janeegg with the 32 plates of sushi on fb and claimed she ate it all. AND EVERYONE BELIEVED IT. Now you know what your reputation is like, eggy.

Mandatory trio shot and ootds!
OOTD - H&M camo tank, old black skinnies, montego bay club wedges, ralph lauren leather sling, black leather and studs wrist party - I was in the mood for punk yesterday

The lovely bbs (': I need to get an iphone soon; I'm inconveniencing everyone with my compulsive camwhoring

After we were done with all this camwhoring and were just sitting around getting started on our htht, this korean boy came up to us. At first we thought he wanted to borrow the 4th chair at our table, so we said go ahead, but it turned out he wanted to sit with us and he asked if we would mind joining him and his friends. Janeegg, who is always game for anything, said okay, and so that was how we ended up spending the night talking to three korean boys. I ended up having to play interpreter and icebreaker (-_-") the night ended on a slightly awkward note and that was that.

On a random note, some cute stuff I saw while in town the other day:
Paper mache neko-chan and hello kitty sleep mask!
The paper mache neko-chan was a store deco in the JRunway shop; so cute I was almost tempted to steal it. But going to jail for stealing a cat made of newspaper sounds pretty dumb, no matter how you think about it. And the hello kitty sleep mask is from daiso! $2 only. But since I don't use sleep masks at home, and seeing as I won't be flying anywhere for the rest of the year, this frivolity would be unjustified. I control my impulses sometimes.

Instant strawberry milk tea with jelly; incoming mail; presents from the sister
The instant strawberry milk tea is fascinating. Sis brought it back from China. Basically you just empty the sachet of milk tea powder and the packet of jelly into the cup and add hot water a la cup noodles and voila! you get hot milk tea with nata de coco. It's like bubble tea, except warm. And it's yummy!

Also, my bustier dress from megagamie came in really quickly! ヾ(●⌒∇⌒●)ノ and it came with kaikai/jiajia postage stamps so cute ahaha. And souvenirs from the sister! Sentimental circus ヾ(´▽`*;) shappo handphone accessory and bookmark. And a studded cuff and a kuroneko ring. And I am inordinately pleased with the presents because I do not get presents from my sis often /sadlifeofanoldersibling

Late-night musings.

"I wonder if it's possible to have a love affair that lasts forever."
- Andy Warhol

"Love is a temporary madness, it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides. And when it subsides, you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion, it is not the desire to mate every second minute of the day, it is not lying awake at night imagining that he is kissing every cranny of your body. No, don't blush, I am telling you some truths. That is just being "in love", which any fool can do. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident."
- Louis de Bernieres, Captain Corelli's Mandolin

"People, I have discovered, are layers and layers of secrets. You believe you know them, that you understand them, but their motives are always hidden from you, buried in their own hearts. You will never know them, but sometimes you decide to trust them."
- Veronica Roth, Insurgent

soaring, spiraling, spinning

aseaofquotes.tumblr

Sudden desire to go kite-flying like I used to when I was young. So young and carefree then. Why is it that school has only just started and I'm already so tired?! (_  _")

When things get tough and times get rough, I just have this urge to go on a shopping spree and buy something, anything. And dress as fancily and outrageously as I can. It's like clothes are my armour, you know?

Up and about town

As you can tell, I've gotten lazy. And this crazy hot weather has not been helping. It makes one feel so lethargic all the time, so much so that you just end up doing nothing but feeling very tired at the end of the day. So much has been happening/not happening since I came back from Vietnam, I don't know where to start updating. Imma just talk about today first and update as and when.

Tian and Tang
We decided to meet up before I go off to Indo and then Europe and Tang goes off to Taiwan and Tian goes off to Japan. The agenda for the day consisted of shopping and food. As always.

Tang suggested this relatively new place at Ngee Ann City. She calls it a boulangerie aka a fancy synonym for a bakery, pretty much. But you know what, I forgot to try its bread! D: when we entered I thought to myself that I would get some bread at the counter on the way out, but we were so stuffed after our meal there that I completely forgot. Oh well.

What I ate: I forgot the name of this, but it's some salad.

...and that is why I will never become a famous food blogger; I just do not have the memory capacity to retain the fancy names of the dishes. Besides, it's french, so pardon me. The portion is really huge and it's very 丰盛; it had like walnuts, raisins, green apple slices, chicken breast, emmental cheese, carrot and assorted veggies. Healthy and quite yummy, except for the purple veggies. I do not eat purple veggies.

Millefeuille! the chocolate one.
I do not think there a glam way to eat this thing, you kinda have to massacre it. But I love flaky pastry I could probably eat flaky pastry every day. Anyway this was quite nice imo, not too heavy on the palate even though it was cream-filled.

The tea set: choice of tea (earl grey), two macarons, mini creme brulee and brownie-like cake; we each ordered one of this. Yes, after one main each.

The bill came up to more than a hundred for the 3 of us, so it was a rather pricey random tea/dinner. But I guess it's 'cause we were kinda eating two meals together, what with a main course and a tea set each. And a slice of millefeuille. Service was excellent though, the staff were friendly and polite and enquired about how we liked the food etc.

Being "juvenile"

In other daily news, my spree parcel finally came in! I crept downstairs after midnight to retrieve this from the mailbox before mum could discover it. The basement carpark was rather eery, even though I've been home way later many times before. I kept thinking what a good murder spot that could be and expecting something/someone to spring out at me. Like if the security guard had been walking by I think I'd have gotten a shock (-_-") The headlines the next day could have been: "Law undergrad frightened to death retrieving spree parcel at midnight". ...smart way to die.

The haul: four items of clothing, one of which I wore today

Little prince in jap/chinese and JLPT prep assessment book
Tian lugged these back from Shanghai for me! So I shall be hardworking and revise my japanese diligently and pass the N3 test this year-end! ...actually I don't even know if there is a JLPT examination in December.

Wardrobe clearance!

Before and after

So after one year of not tidying my wardrobe it ended up looking like that (see 'before' picture). And because I decided to hold a clearance sale at the flea market this coming saturday with Tang, Jane and Lingie, I was finally forced to do something with this...mess. No actually, it is organised chaos. There is an order to the mess. Except for maybe the bags. Yeah so I ruthlessly cleared out clothes I know I'd most likely never wear ever again to be sold dirt cheap at the flea. I also threw out bags and set the newer ones aside to be sold at the flea, so the current bag count is now 40. And it doesn't look like 40 bags in the 'after' picture because there are bags within bags within bags! #inception hahah (which I still have not watched, but I digress) What an ingenious way of storage right! Except I haven't figured out what to do when I want to use the bag which contains the bags that contain bags...

Details of the flea
Date: 19 May, Saturday
Time: 2pm - 8pm
Venue: *scape
Selling: dresses, tops and bags

If you know me, you'll know that I border on being obsessive-compulsive about my things, so most of the stuff I'm selling are in really good condition, and some are new/unworn. So friends please come and support if you have the time!

Dresses that had hangers - there's another pile in the background 'cause I ran out of hangers
i've cleared maybe about half?one-third? of my dresses and i'm proud to say that i do not need to double-hang my dresses anymore and I actually have spare hangers! But my dresses only make up like maybe, a third of my wardrobe. So. I'll get to the other two-thirds eventually.

And I'm keeping some dresses I don't wear anymore to be altered by me into something I'd wear. Although I don't know when I'll actually find the time to do it...

Bags #shopaholicbreakdown

Miki joining in the party

And I am such a hoarder I collect even pretty paper/plastic/recyclable bags wtf. So those who buy from me will be getting their purchases in pretty bags (-_-") This year I promise myself to hoard less so no more.

Artbox hauls.

So I said I would do a review of my eyebrow mascara, with pictures.
...I lied. sorry.
The truth is, I'm too lazy.
It's just like this low-quality taken-with-bb-even-though-I-have-a-new-dslr OOTD photo that imma fob you off with:

Not that anyone really cares (but this is my blog so you have no choice HAH). It's for my own gratification #vainpot And fishtail braid! I learnt it from frmheadtotoe's youtube video the other day (yes now you know how I spend my time -_-") so I've been sporting this hairstyle for the past couple of days.

And I'm getting out of control; today I randomly walked into Artbox and bought a shitload of stuff I don't need:

SO CUTE NO? Okay I need to stop.

Anyway so there won't be any pictures for my eyebrow mascara review, but I shall talk about it anyway, 'cause I think it's good! People with dyed hair and naturally black brows should try it, if you're as vain as I am. The one I bought is by Dolly Wink. It only comes in shades of brown though, so if you have say, turquoise-colored hair, then too bad for you, you'll just have to use paint or something.

They have three shades of brown, on a scale of 1-3, with 1 being the lightest and 3 being the darkest. I bought #3, which is Cocoa. The lightest is called Honey I think. Cocoa is still pretty light-colored, but because my brows are so black, it doesn't turn out overly light. But it does tone down my brows a couple of shades, so the contrast between my brows and hair isn't as stark (: I have no idea why my brows are so black naturally, 'cause even my natural hair color is only dark brown (-_-) Oh but you have to brush it out evenly though, or it'll look a little odd up close.

New shoes + cooking disaster

Title says it all.

The new Love, Bonito sandals that I ordered arrived in the mail today (just in time before mummy comes home tonight (^-^;))!

I'm no reviewer, but I'd just like to say that I'm pretty impressed by their packaging! The sandals came nicely packed and it even had these plastic pegs to keep the straps in place and make sure they don't get distorted.

New black sandals (^-^)V The quality seems pretty good, the soles are thin but hard, so hopefully they're sturdy and can last long.

Dinner for the night:
So I decided to cook spaghetti for dinner. Which would have been rather straightforward if I'd decided to cook creamy pasta or something. But I decided I wanted to try making aglio olio. After skyping boomy, who told me to chop my own garlic, I decided to cheat and use the jar of minced garlic I already had. The only thing about cheating is, you have to be smart enough. Like, read the words on the jar kind of smart. Which of course, I wasn't. So disaster struck. After adding olive oil into the frying pan and waiting for it to heat up, I added the minced garlic in and oil started splattering everywhere (and i mean, everywhere). It didn't help that I was a little too liberal with the amount of oil. And the garlic got burnt within seconds and turned black. So I switched off the fire and brought the pan to the sink. Waited for a bit (but apparently not long enough) and turned on the tap to cool the pan and the whole kitchen went up in smoke. I couldn't open the door to the pantry 'cause the laundry would get dirty, and I couldn't open the kitchen door because the cat would come in. (T ^ T)

In the end I waited a longer bit, and tried again. By this time I remembered that the minced garlic was already soaked in soybean oil and water in the jar, and I wasn't supposed to add so much olive oil into the pan (I've used it to cook before). Err so this time nothing went wrong. And the orange soup is manhattan clam chowder (Campbell).

...I realised I left out the black pepper only after the photos. It turned out pretty okay; the spaghetti was the correct texture and the mushrooms were juicy and the taste was not bad.

But I had to mop the kitchen floor thrice and wipe the counter tops countless times. And wash the pots and pans and make sure I didn't leave any evidence of my cooking incident, 'cause mummy's coming home tonight and she won't be pleased that I wreaked havoc in her kitchen. I think the maid in the kitchen opposite saw my kitchen go up in smoke though. I hope she doesn't say anything...

Moral of the story is, just marry someone who can cook.

IT fair madness

Say hello to my new toy people! After years of mere talk, I have finally finally gotten a dslr of my own! So today I was telling daddy I felt like getting a dslr, probably at the IT fair or something, without realising that the IT fair is going on this weekend. Daddy said well then let's go and so we went (I have such a cool dad yes? \(^-^)/ ) and we nearly wanted to take the mrt 'cause we were worried about parking and all, but in the end daddy chickened out (he does not take the mrt) and we drove. Which turned out to be a good choice, because this was what I got at the fair:

Yes, all these, out of which only one small box in the bag I was toting is the actual dslr. The rest are freebies. The big cardboard box right there is a dry cabinet for storing the dslr. I also got a tripod, a lens filter, a cleaning kit, a 8gb memory card, a 16gb memory card, a camera bag, a camera backpack, a camel-colored camera strap (seen above), a card reader and a remote control. Which is a lot. But it'd have been good if he could have given me an additional battery...*greedy* and all these for $1199. Which, imo is quite worth it, given that that's the usual price for just the camera.

We also bought two new laptops, for mummy and sis. Acer laptops in pretty shades of blue and purple. $799 each, with 500gb of hard disk and 8gb ram. It sounds pretty good to me, but I'm no techie. And we got two laptop bags, two wireless mice (do you call it mice if it's plural? Hmm) and two sets of speakers thrown in.

Seriously, it was like a warzone in there. It was sooo crowded if there was a fire no one would have been able to move an inch and we'd all have roasted alive together. There was a snaking queue just to get up the escalator. You bump into someone everywhere you turn. My kind of nightmare. Claustrophobic plus embarrassing 'cause it's very hard to maneuver around when you're dragging a trolley and carrying two bags (daddy was queuing for the laptops and mummy was queuing for the freebies) so you end up bumping into people with every step you take and wheeling your trolley over people's feet. But when you act like a damsel in distress, people will help you (^-^)V

My loot. And in case you were wondering, no I did not bring the trolley there. The dry cabinets were already strapped onto trolleys, ready for people to collect and tow away. I think all the other big electronic items, like teevee and such were like that too. ...now I can work part-time as a garang guni man with that trolley.

Another picture of my camera! :D Nothing would have been able to compel me go to such crowded fairs usually, but this was worth the trip!
