Summer dreaming

Mood board for the summer~ I'm thinking retro pin-up doll vibes, polka dots, bright colours, bold patterns, cropped bustiers, kiss-me lippies, minidresses with flare skirts, shift dresses, short rompers...

There's something sexy about short curls and bold lippies

The swimsuit I bought! And now, to get a bikini-worthy bod...wish I could just buy it as well.

locus amoenus

Word of the day
Learnt from flipping through the notes for my narrative mod. Not so useless after all.

Pork belly buns; aka the western version of 扣肉包
So I suggested dinner in the east side (so i could go pick up my taobao haul from the spreer's place heh (^-^;)) and J brought me to the garden slug. So happened that I was reading about the place on ladyironchef just the other day. So many food places and cafes I want to go! (((o(。・д・。)o)))

Smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and toast; and chicken and mash with salad
I liked the place! nestled in the middle of a quiet residential estate. No crowd, so you don't have to shout to be overheard, or feel stressed about eating slowly haha. Just a chill, quiet place. Still thinking about the desserts...I wonder if they are nice. But we were too full; the portions are generous.

self-help

Words left unsaid hanging heavy in the air, like ripe fruit waiting to fall from trees. But not yet, not yet, whispers the wind. The distance to the ground is too far, the drop too scary. You are not ready. The fruits do not dare to let go of the branches, for fear of smashing on the ground and splattering. But what if they hold on for too long, and they start rotting on the trees? What if the light fragrance changes to the pungent smell of decay? And in the end they will fall anyway, as rotten fruit on the ground.

In other news, I've forgotten how good it is to wake up early, with a sense of purpose and a list of things to do for the day and the satisfaction one gets from checking off the to-do list one by one. I was kind of in a funk just a few days ago; I think school does that to you sometimes. especially when you're studying for exams. Everyday it's just wake up, go to school, study, go home, sleep, repeat. The routine wears you down after a while. At least, it gets to me. And no one can help you unless you help yourself. Even being depressed gets tiresome after a while, and sometimes I think you just have to make a conscious decision to cheer up, to find something to distract yourself and be happy, instead of dwelling on how tedious and humdrum life is right now. All the while studying for the exams of course. That said I still can't wait for all this to end so I can play~ o(≧∇≦)o

And now, for some gratuitous pictures, just because.

No make day! With janeegg.
Some people in school kindly informed me that I do not look very different without my eyeliner. But you know who the honest people are when suddenly over lunch they start confessing to you various occasions when they got shocked by how small your eyes really are (-_-") I think this means I have to go around occasionally without my eyeliner to remind people how I really look like, and no it's not because I'm really tired or because I'm under the weather.

Handel's Messiah

So Faith invited me to watch an orchestra concert with her. Handel's Messiah is baroque music, apparently. Tbh I'm not very musically inclined. The music is really nice to the ears and all, but I can't really appreciate it you know? So for the first half I was trying hard not to doze off, wondering how anyone else could stay awake when the music was so soothing and sleep-inducing, until Faith pointed out later that the other people kept flipping through their programme booklet every few seconds.

Basically I found out the truth of why she invited me - I was to be her mannequin model for her to test out her new camera. She said she knew I wouldn't mind. ...she was right.

OOTD - polka dot peter pan collar dress from taiwan, red wedges from lovebonito
Faith says my outfit is in the fifties style. I can never remember the fashion decades. As usual I just wear what comes to mind.

You see how it is when you're tall; one looks classy and statuesque. On my part I look rather like I'm drowning in fabric every time I wear a maxi dress and my nightmare is to get my hem caught in the moving escalator (which, to my utter horror, has happened before).

Compulsively taking pictures all over the place, with quiet feelings of guilt about being so uncultured as to skip half a concert.

The lovely Faith and her beer, and me grinning like an idiot

Life in pictures

One rainy tuesday afternoon, like we had nothing to do
(also, notice my new bangs)

Fav x'mas drink from starbucks - peppermint mocha (NOT toffee nut latte)

Happy things

Spot the bird!

A collage of cat and trees
This pretty tree with white flowers stands by the roadside just in front of my apartment block. Once a year it blooms and looking down from my room window it always looks really pretty, standing out from the rest of the trees. Then flowers die, as they are wont to do and the tree just goes back to being a normal roadside tree for the rest of the year.

夏祭り

OOTD; my first time wearing a yukata
Yukata from Faith; flower on obi from Tian; japanese pouch from aunt; flowers in my hair from Accessorize

Actually no this is not the first time i'm wearing a yukata. This was the first time I wore a yukata:
HAHAHA look at the chubby cheeks omg think I still have them actually. I was maybe 4 back then.

I have come to the conclusion that you can learn anything off youtube. Including how to wear a yukata, tie the obi sash as well as how to do various hairstyles.

Tian (^-^)

Dear Faith who invited me and lent me the yukata (^-^)

Okonomiyaki and gyoza that were not worth the money

こんにちは!

Tian's kitty-chan in kimono!

可愛い子供

The man who climbed up a tree (goodness knows how) to get some nice photos

Wo adorable she made various faces when she saw me taking photos of her

Picnic crowd

Obviously not sitting like a true Japanese

Eat and talk and camwhore

Extremely crowded; according to the emcees there were 8800 people at the festival (O_o)

うまいアイスクリーム!

This boyfriend very accommodatingly put a flower in his hair

My obi was slowly sliding down the entire night (-_-")
