Yummy in our tummies

Daddy's birthday lunch at Jing restaurant at One Fullerton today! I was so stuffed by the end of it I could hardly move. But it was a good lunch with the family as usual.

First up, my OOTD -
Lace blouse - wonderstellar.lj, blue shorts - tokyofashion, red crochet bag - handmade by aunt, dust blue socks - daiso, nude peeptoes - charles and keith

The lace blouse was a backorder from wonderstellar, I'm pretty happy with it, although it took me a while to match it up so that I didn't look overly...cutesy? countrygirl? hahah. This outfit could have done without the socks, but I decided to wear my new socks anyway. I was in the mood for jap cute. I got the socks when I popped into Daiso the other day, the one shop where I can always go in and come out with a dozen purchases of things that I don't really need. I actually saw these socks in a Daiso when I was in Osaka last year, but I didn't get them and I've been thinking about them ever since. So when I saw it in the shop I just grabbed them and headed straight for the counter, lest I picked up more things.

And because we're all suaku, we've never seen an operating wheelchair lift before:

Dim sum + ala carte buffet

The original plan was actually to go to Hai Tien Lo at Pan Pacific, but to our disappointment it is under renovation and will not be open till end of this year. So I found this restaurant as I was looking through ladyironchef's list of dim sum places in Singapore, but he didn't do a review of the place, so I checked out its website myself and decided to just try it out.

Some of the food we ate (I only remembered to take photos halfway through, 'cause I was starting to get full...):
Drunken prawns
The prawns were fresh, but I thought that the soup that came with it did not have a really strong taste of alcohol, and cousin thought it had a bit of msg taste to it.

Chilli crab
The chilli crab is limited to one serving per table and you can order fried mantous to go with it. It's decent, but I've had nicer.

Fried fish - I think it was soon hock
This is also limited to one serving per table. I'm a fish lover, and this was really nice imo. It was fried to a crisp, the flesh is fresh and I liked the sauce that came with it.

Fried mantous!
Went well with the chilli crab gravy. It's one of my favourite things to eat, but we only had one each 'cause we wanted to try so many other things.

Wasabi prawns
This was yummy! At first we were a little apprehensive about ordering it, but in the end we went ahead and ordered two portions (one portion has three) anyway. The wasabi sauce turned out to be really nice. It wasn't too choking, so it didn't have the shoot-up-your-nose and teary eyes effect. I could eat many many portions of this.

Mango with pomelo and mini custard tarts
I liked the mango with pomelo a lot! I was raving about it as I ate it and someone commented that I was repeating myself. But in general everyone likes mango with pomelo, no? So when the dessert/fruits station (only the desserts/fruits and meats have stations, the rest are ordered from the menu) ran out of it the rest at the table were rather disappointed. It was past the stipulated last order time, so we thought they would not serve anymore. But when we asked the waiter requested that the kitchen make a new batch, so everyone got to eat it. I thought that was nice of them.

I forgot what this is called, but I found it really yummy! It's prawns wrapped in crispy noodles and you make an unsightly mess when you try to eat it, but I liked it a lot. Too bad my stomach was 99.99% full when this came and it was past last order time so I couldn't order more.

Fried beancurd rolls - yummy!

This also contained prawn (I think we ate dozens of prawns each today), but unfortunately I don't remember much about it 'cause I was full to bursting and it was overshadowed by the beancurd roll and crispy noodle dumpling.

Longevity buns
Complimentary from the restaurant, because I informed them during reservation that it was my dad's birthday. They served two baskets of these.

Homemade coconut ice cream
I'm not a fan of coconut, so I'm biased against it, although I ate it.

All in all I thought the food pretty decent, especially if you are a lover of prawn. We ate so many prawn dishes, although we tried many other dishes as well. Like soft shell crab with salted egg yolk! We ordered five portions of that, so you know how much we liked it. Also, standard fare like har gau, siew mai and carrot cake. The duck noodles were nice. So were the scallop and prawn dumplings. We didn't try the veggies and beancurd, although I would have liked to. We mainly attacked the seafood and dim sum (-_-")

Service on the day itself was excellent, the lady went out to help us contact security to turn on the wheelchair lift, the male manager?waiter? was prompt and engaged in friendly banter with the elders. My only gripe is that when I made the reservation and confirmed the date and price, they did not inform me that the price/person would be increased this weekend due to Mother's Day, and I only found out when we were seated and they were serving us the complimentary soup. The increase in price came with complimentary abalone soup, and everyone had a piece of small whole abalone each, so I guess it was okay in that sense. The place was not crowded, so we were able to eat leisurely from 12 to 2.30.

Marble cheesecake that I ordered from TCC.
Some people found it nice, some people found the chocolate base too sweet. Personally I liked the chocolate base a lot, but I have a sweet tooth. However I must say that the cheesecake was pretty heavy on the palate after a huge meal of buffet, so by the time we finished our slices I was pretty sure I'd snort out cheesecake if I breathed too heavily.

friday night with the lovelies
bus-ed to krc from school to meet lingie and watch lawmed soccer, which we didn't win ): then we took the train to chinatown and hung around waiting for rondie. poor rondie had a hard week at work (T_T)\(^-^) we need a scumbag boss meme. or is there one somewhere already?

dim sum at chinatown!

round 1 *dingdongdingdong*

we decided to take a night stroll to clarke quay for dessert, and to pretend we are happening people out on a friday night. it was a good night, just chillin' by the river ♥

sanyee's 60th birthday dinner
held at imperial treasure fine chinese cuisine at mbs.

pretty bouquet of flowers for sanyee

my OOTD:

lace minidress: thescarletroom
suede wedges: lovebonito
metallic grey clutch: bangkok

i bought this dress quite long ago, but i haven't worn it in a while. i like it a lot, other than the fact that it doesn't have any button keyhole closure for its high neckline. which makes it hard for people who have a slightly big head like me, because you'll find yourself having a hard time trying to put your head through without tearing your stick-out ears off accidentally.

sis, bro, me, couz
...and i only look like i'm of comparable height because i'm wearing 4-inch wedges (T_T) #lifeofashortgirl

daddy and his two girls ♥

sweet white wine to start off the dinner. this is good! although the moscato we had at wilson's was still sweeter (yes i am no connoisseur, i like wine by their sweetness)

and the following are only pictures of select dishes out of the many many dishes we ate for dinner. which explains why i am still up blogging; i'm too full to sleep.

lobster sashimi - it was so fresh the poor lobster was still moving as we ate it. i do not understand how that is possible. the flesh of the lobster was laid out on a bed of ice on the plate, so technically the lobster is only an empty shell, so why was it still moving?! *traumatised*

the yummiest thing ever. sauteed scallop with egg white and truffle oil ♥♥♥
i'd love to learn how to make this; the egg white was so fluffy.

roasted suckling pig that had really nice crisp skin

steamed coral trout ♥

i do not know what this is called in english. nor in chinese for that matter. for those who understand cantonese, it's called mah-lai gou. i suppose that translates to 马拉糕 in chinese? hmm.

in fact, the whole dinner conversation was conducted in (rapid-fire) cantonese, as usual. for those who don't understand canto, i.e. sis and cookie's boyfriend, our raucous family dinners are probably not as interesting as they really are.

cherry & rum birthday cake from awfully chocolate. i've only ever tried the pure chocolate and chocolate banana one, but this is pretty good too.

when you turn 60 you get to eat 寿桃

sanyee and i (: we look like we have an eye-smile thing going on.

turning 21.

i haven't been blogging for a while! so many things have happened, and i am still busy/tired out interning, hence the lack of posts. first of all, my un-birthday tea party! everything was pretty much DIY and handmade, just the way i wanted it. i'll post more about them in my craft blog, when i have the time. oh and the theme was A Tinge of Lace, and i'm happy to say everyone obligingly turned up accordingly, even if it was only a bit of lace (:

1 celebration dinner, 1 tea party, 2 birthday cakes, and a lot of presents later, i am well and truly 21. it's a little too much to think about right now, so i shall save the reflections for later.
