Daddy's birthday lunch at Jing restaurant at One Fullerton today! I was so stuffed by the end of it I could hardly move. But it was a good lunch with the family as usual.
First up, my OOTD -
Lace blouse - wonderstellar.lj, blue shorts - tokyofashion, red crochet bag - handmade by aunt, dust blue socks - daiso, nude peeptoes - charles and keith
The lace blouse was a backorder from wonderstellar, I'm pretty happy with it, although it took me a while to match it up so that I didn't look overly...cutesy? countrygirl? hahah. This outfit could have done without the socks, but I decided to wear my new socks anyway. I was in the mood for jap cute. I got the socks when I popped into Daiso the other day, the one shop where I can always go in and come out with a dozen purchases of things that I don't really need. I actually saw these socks in a Daiso when I was in Osaka last year, but I didn't get them and I've been thinking about them ever since. So when I saw it in the shop I just grabbed them and headed straight for the counter, lest I picked up more things.
And because we're all suaku, we've never seen an operating wheelchair lift before:
Gramps and wheelchair lift in action
Dim sum + ala carte buffet
The original plan was actually to go to Hai Tien Lo at Pan Pacific, but to our disappointment it is under renovation and will not be open till end of this year. So I found this restaurant as I was looking through ladyironchef's list of dim sum places in Singapore, but he didn't do a review of the place, so I checked out its website myself and decided to just try it out.
Some of the food we ate (I only remembered to take photos halfway through, 'cause I was starting to get full...):
Drunken prawns
The prawns were fresh, but I thought that the soup that came with it did not have a really strong taste of alcohol, and cousin thought it had a bit of msg taste to it.
Chilli crab
The chilli crab is limited to one serving per table and you can order fried mantous to go with it. It's decent, but I've had nicer.
Fried fish - I think it was soon hock
This is also limited to one serving per table. I'm a fish lover, and this was really nice imo. It was fried to a crisp, the flesh is fresh and I liked the sauce that came with it.
Fried mantous!
Went well with the chilli crab gravy. It's one of my favourite things to eat, but we only had one each 'cause we wanted to try so many other things.
Wasabi prawns
This was yummy! At first we were a little apprehensive about ordering it, but in the end we went ahead and ordered two portions (one portion has three) anyway. The wasabi sauce turned out to be really nice. It wasn't too choking, so it didn't have the shoot-up-your-nose and teary eyes effect. I could eat many many portions of this.
Mango with pomelo and mini custard tarts
I liked the mango with pomelo a lot! I was raving about it as I ate it and someone commented that I was repeating myself. But in general everyone likes mango with pomelo, no? So when the dessert/fruits station (only the desserts/fruits and meats have stations, the rest are ordered from the menu) ran out of it the rest at the table were rather disappointed. It was past the stipulated last order time, so we thought they would not serve anymore. But when we asked the waiter requested that the kitchen make a new batch, so everyone got to eat it. I thought that was nice of them.
I forgot what this is called, but I found it really yummy! It's prawns wrapped in crispy noodles and you make an unsightly mess when you try to eat it, but I liked it a lot. Too bad my stomach was 99.99% full when this came and it was past last order time so I couldn't order more.
Fried beancurd rolls - yummy!
This also contained prawn (I think we ate dozens of prawns each today), but unfortunately I don't remember much about it 'cause I was full to bursting and it was overshadowed by the beancurd roll and crispy noodle dumpling.
Longevity buns
Complimentary from the restaurant, because I informed them during reservation that it was my dad's birthday. They served two baskets of these.
Homemade coconut ice cream
I'm not a fan of coconut, so I'm biased against it, although I ate it.
All in all I thought the food pretty decent, especially if you are a lover of prawn. We ate so many prawn dishes, although we tried many other dishes as well. Like soft shell crab with salted egg yolk! We ordered five portions of that, so you know how much we liked it. Also, standard fare like har gau, siew mai and carrot cake. The duck noodles were nice. So were the scallop and prawn dumplings. We didn't try the veggies and beancurd, although I would have liked to. We mainly attacked the seafood and dim sum (-_-")
Service on the day itself was excellent, the lady went out to help us contact security to turn on the wheelchair lift, the male manager?waiter? was prompt and engaged in friendly banter with the elders. My only gripe is that when I made the reservation and confirmed the date and price, they did not inform me that the price/person would be increased this weekend due to Mother's Day, and I only found out when we were seated and they were serving us the complimentary soup. The increase in price came with complimentary abalone soup, and everyone had a piece of small whole abalone each, so I guess it was okay in that sense. The place was not crowded, so we were able to eat leisurely from 12 to 2.30.

Marble cheesecake that I ordered from TCC.
Some people found it nice, some people found the chocolate base too sweet. Personally I liked the chocolate base a lot, but I have a sweet tooth. However I must say that the cheesecake was pretty heavy on the palate after a huge meal of buffet, so by the time we finished our slices I was pretty sure I'd snort out cheesecake if I breathed too heavily.
